Same-sex Ibiza weddings

You’ve found your soulmate and you’ve both decided to take the next step in your lives – marriage! You’re both set to exchange vows in beautiful and sunny Ibiza. The excitement is rising as you begin the planning process until you realize that most of the advice available for wedding planning is geared towards weddings consisting of a bride and a groom.

Many same-sex couples are recreating wedding ceremonies, receptions, and overall wedding planning. From walking down the aisle to throwing the wedding of the year at a fabulous wedding venue in Ibiza, same-sex couples are coming up with new and innovative ways to tailor basic wedding traditions to suit their wants and needs. To maintain your sanity, here are some tips to plan the wedding of your dreams.

forget about traditions

We’re in the 21st century- tradition is so last season! Wedding planning is stressful enough without the added pressure of incorporating traditional values that do not pertain to you. Remember that there are no gender roles here and this gives you carte blanche to design your perfect Ibiza gay wedding.

be creative

Add your own flair. No rules exist that state you must include maids of honor or best men. Maybe you don’t want a wedding party. That’s ok. You and your partner can shine bright, center stage. Think about how you will make your grand entrance, both to your ceremony and reception. Don’t limit yourself to what has already been done.

what will you wear?

This is always the hardest part of an ibiza gay wedding. Do both women wear a dress? Do both men wear a tux? The good news is that you can wear whatever you please! A wedding in Ibiza calls for sweltering weather, so whatever you choose, make sure the fabrics are light. Ladies, if you have a beach wedding, opt for lighter dresses with flowy materials. Gentlemen, opt for linen pants and cotton shirts. If you’ve got the means for an additional expense, consider having an outfit made specifically for you. No matter what you choose, be sure that your personality shines through!

social media

Social media will be your best friend when planning your Ibiza wedding. Websites like Pinterest are chock full of DIY ideas to add the right amount of pizzazz to your wedding in Ibiza, even ideas specific to gay weddings in Ibiza.  You can even join same-sex marriage groups on Facebook and bounce ideas off them. Tip: Create a Facebook group and invite your wedding party. The group will be like a personal wedding forum that you and your wedding party can use to design the wedding together. Think of it as your very own Ibiza wedding planning forum- the convenience of having one place to find all the ideas is an added bonus!

bachelor/bachelorette parties

While bachelor and bachelorette parties can be a bit taboo, there’s no reason to nix the idea of a party completely. Why not have a joint party filled with friends and family? Celebrate the union that is to be by throwing a barbecue, spending the day at a spa, or simply make a reservation at a nice restaurant in Ibiza. Your Ibiza gay wedding party planning can become stressful if the couple can’t seem to decide on one place. Consider having two different parties and meeting up at the end. Do you want to have a nice, quiet backyard barbecue, but your partner wants to eat at a restaurant? Divide the parties up and then both groups can meet up at the spa to wrap the night up. The possibilities are endless!

Tip: If there is anyone on your list unable to make it to your fabulous Ibiza wedding, consider including them in a pre-wedding barbecue or dinner at a restaurant before you set forth to wedded bliss in sunny Ibiza.

wedding registries

Keep your traveling plans in mind before you decide to create a registry. You will have to return home at some point, and hauling everything you arrived with along with all your wedding gifts is not practical. Create a registry and have your guests bring your wedding gifts to your pre-wedding party. You can also change things up a bit and ask for gift cards in lieu of gifts. Create a list on decorative stationery, matching your invitations, of your favorite stores and let your guests choose the store and amount. Place a decorative container at the gift table for your guests to place their cards/gift cards. This option will provide for much easier traveling arrangements.

surround yourself with the right people

As any wedding would go, only invite people that are supportive of you. This is your special day and you don’t want it ruined by any naysayers. We try our hardest to see the good in everyone, but sometimes it becomes a difficult task when encountering non-supporters of same-sex marriage. The same idea applies to vendors. You want to be upfront about your requests and don’t settle for less than you deserve.
